Fenjiu Grand Master Intangible Cultural Heritage Techniques Box

设计师(单位):山西杏花村汾酒集团有限责任公司

This series of works is a wine container storage wooden boxes designed by artist Wang Yi for Fenjiu. The wooden box cover can be used as a decorative painting separately. The artist transformed the poetic aesthetics of oriental landscapes, the patterns of the Forbidden City, and traditional imagery in Chinese literati paintings using immaterial cultural heritage techniques such as lacquer, incrustation of boiserie, and cloisonné into a readable contemporary design language. The artist turns the boxes into decorative and practical works of art, attempting to realize the vision of reviving and protecting the traditional techniques on the brink of extinction through the manufacturing of industrial products. Combining the history and culture of Fenjiu, Wang Yi takes inspiration from the three-color pottery of the Yangshao period six thousand years ago, and uses the extensibility of three metals to simulate the natural textures of trees and water waves, forming unique geometric patterns. Wang Yi's cloisonné composition and color scheme attempt to introduce the concept of ancient Beiqi murals into a modern minimalist style. The character elements of wide robes and long sleeves, riding horses with their heads held high, inject classical humanism and the spirit of exploring. The flowing and elegant aesthetic realm of landscape poetry is a manifestation of the cosmic schema of oriental culture.

Through this award, we hope to inspire more designers and craftsmen to engage in the protection of traditional crafts, while also showcasing the unique charm and cultural value of these crafts to the public.

This is a set of jewelry worn by Chinese brides on their wedding day, including a crown, necklace, bracelets, rings, and earrings. Inspired by traditional Chinese elements such as roof ridges, windows, and the Chinese character for "blissful" (Xi). Roof ridges and windows symbolize the home in Chinese tradition, representing the new family that the newlyweds will create. The "Xi" character, a main element in Chinese weddings, symbolizes good fortune.

The materials used include 24k gold, Akoya pearls, and red coral, with a special emphasis on red coral jade, which perfectly suits the red theme of Chinese weddings. The craftsmanship of this jewelry set is entirely based on Chinese intangible cultural heritage techniques. Handcrafted by skilled artisans, it requires dozens of processes and the collaboration of more than ten craftsmen, taking at least six months to complete. Using techniques like filigree and embossing, the metal wires are crafted into the shapes and structures of phoenixes, making the jewelry more vivid and intriguing.
